Permission to be Sick (February 16, 2009)

Does my body know when my husband is going to be home? It seems I get sick on the long weekends, when I know he has a day off. I always feel so badly for him having to take care of me on those days. Do I run myself to hard on the “normal” days and need to cut back so that we can enjoy the mutual vacation days? I just don’t get it.

Of course, it could be the overall course of the weekend. I didn’t get enough sleep on Friday night. Saturday, being Valentine’s Day, was our date night. We went to a comedy club, but to get into the auditorium, we had to walk through areas where smoking is allowed.

So did I paralyze my nose cilium, and exacerbate the next day’s fever and chills? Or was it an inevitable because of the breakneck speed schedule I’ve had the last week? Not sure.

What I do know is that I no longer give my body permission to be sick on the mutual days off. Nor do I give it permission to be sick at all. I do give myself permission to be wise in my scheduling and planning and execution of the plan. I want to be well.

I give myself permission to be well.
