I Choose to Bask in the Sun (March 27, 2013)

Okay, so I don’t even know if it hit 40 today. What I do know is that my neighbor’s driveway gets great afternoon sun. I sat there, playing sidewalk chalk with Baby Dragon and her friend. Every  few minutes the older boys would approach to ask me something about bike riding, snacks, or bike riding with snacks. As I looked up to answer them, I realized that they were blocking my sun. Yes, mine.

I was on the verge of napping, right there on the driveway. Good thing I didn’t. I don’t think sidewalk chalk and drool are a good combo.

This morning I awakened before anyone. I did a quick workout, burning a few hundred calories. I was showered and done with breakfast before anyone else was up. Miraculous in this household! A busy morning followed, with room cleanups and redesigns, pillar painting, laundry, summer camp applications, spray painting the tabernacle base, and “Mom can I…?” every 9 minutes. Busy.

While I sat on that driveway in the sun, I felt a breeze of guilt brush against my arm. But I shoo-ed it away. It was a Martha Breeze. The kind that makes me not choose the better thing. But I wasn’t going for it today. Today, I basked in the sun. Mary knew that Jesus was in her house. She sat, gleaned, absorbed the warmth of his presence.

This Easter week, let us all choose to bask in the Son.
