Thank you… (August 1, 2010)

“Thank you, Mommy,” said G.

“You’re welcome, sweetie,” I replied, “but for what?”

His answer was quiet, almost a whisper, but clear and genuine, “Thank you for making the baby come out of your tummy.” And then we walked over to her and kissed her again on the cheek.

What a wonderful way to be welcomed into the world! That was last Saturday when Baby D was only 1 day old.

Today, day 9, the appreciation continues. As he prepared his bowl of cereal, G called across the room, “Thank you for making me a baby sister!”

“You’re welcome,” I offered.

I’ve never seen so  much appreciation and adoration from the males in this house, from the dad all the way to Mr. G. I get random pecks on the cheek from boys who, two weeks ago, thought kissing was gross. I think I got seven kisses “just because” yesterday. WOW!

Thank you, God, for making them a baby sister! Thank you for making us a daughter! Thank you for the miracle of seeing that my boys have a soft side!
