Road Trippin’ for the Flavor of the Day (May 27, 2011)

Here’s my traveling tip. When you have a considerable distance to travel that requires “entertainment” to break up the monotony, here’s a suggestion.

You know the not-exactly-fast-food restaurant that is blue and white, sells cheese curds, is based in Wisconsin, and has a mascot named Scoopie? Okay, go there to get your food. I know, kind of pricey, but trust me. Order a Team Scoopie meal. Do NOT get the Snak Pak. It doesn’t come with the custard.

Eat the meal and do not order the custard right then. Save it. If you are traveling with others (which most of my readers are), have each of them turn in the token portion of the Scoopie meal to you. Keep those in a safe place.

Make sure everyone empties their bladders. Hop in the car and keep driving. As you travel along the way, keep an eye out at the Flavor of the Day for these chains. When you see the one you are really craving, stop for a treat. I once did this on a drive from Minnesota through Wisconsin, on into Illinois and beyond. It was much later in the trip, when we were settled into a hotel, that I saw a Cookie Dough Blast featured. OH YEAH! It was like a free DQ Blizzard, but better because The Scoopie People give you a free topping  with the yummy flavor. Try the marshmallow sometime…it’s thinned down marshmallow fluff. YUMMY!

An Aside: The tokens that you have saved may be redeemed for either a Team Scoopie toy (soccer ball, basketball, doll, frisbee, football, volleyball, tee-shirt, and more) or a Scoopie meal. In our clan, we rotate who gets to pick the item. This can completely outfit your garage sports section. If you are tired of the toys, save the tokens and take yourself out for a meal one day with a good book or a journal. Regardless, without the little people.
