[Reading time: 3-5 minutes] Do you watch the show The Middle? This last week’s episode, titled Taking Back the House was an absolute riot! Only because it was so honest in it’s portrayal of how parents turn into the slaves of the children. Those of you that know me are more than aware that I’m not quite yet in that category, but I definitely realize that I do more negotiating with my children than I’d like. The day the episode aired, my new book had been delivered: Large Family Logistics. The Yahoo! group of similar title has been an encouragement to me since I had my third son. But Kim Brenneman has done a service to all managers of their homes with this hardcover book. And in the last few days of reading and preparing, I’m also making the choice to take back my home!
There, I’ve thrown down the gauntlet! It’s on now (I’m rolling my neck with much attitude).
I’m wishing their was a day of the week that started with the letter B so I could call it “Book Review Bursday” or some such thing. And I would review a book that day.
How about this: Mondays will be Management Mondays and I’ll review a book or some such something that’s been a blessing to me in the management of my home, parenting, emotions, or Christian walk. It’ll be “manage your life” related. Tuesdays will be Textbook Tuesdays. If I have something to recommend by way of homeschooling curriculum or other educational resource, I’ll talk about it that day. The rest of the week will be general banter…the ramblings of my heart.
This approach seems to make sense for two reasons. First, we’re at the beginning of the week and I’m referencing a home management book. Second, I talk about books in about 30% of my general chatter, here and in person. So might as well make it a representative share of the blog.
I welcome your book suggestions (might take me a while to get to them, as my list is taller than my house). I also welcome your feedback on books I discuss; feel free to have a differing opinion, but in a considerate way. This is a family-friendly blog!
