Vertig-oh-no!

It was the last week of June. My son stood up from the sofa and got wobbly, saying “I stood up too fast!” Not 5 minutes later, same thing happened to me. Then, on my way up the stairs, I lost my balance and fell into the wall. I knew my ear was not draining wax properly and I had been putting off getting it flushed. So I made my way to our local urgent care to do just that.

Stubborn wax (right side especially), but it finally got out. Fast forward 2 days.

I was talking with my friend about her son’s upcoming wedding. I suddenly felt uneasy, so I said, “I’m not feeling well…let me call you back. Pray for me.”

And then, the whole world tilted. Felt like a see-saw, all the weight on the left and I couldn’t for the life of me make it go back right.

I started calling, “HELP! HELP!”

Nothing.

I called my son on speed dial, “HELP! HELP! Need. Help.”

“On my way,” he was just outside on the other side of the window, praise the Lord!

Then the wretchy vomiting began. What the what?!

My son called the chiropractor. I kept saying it was something from the ear flush… Stood to reason as my last flash in 2022 required me to sit for a good 20 minutes to regain my balance.

Chiropractor assessed and said, “this is not my domain…take her to urgent care.” That was all on a Wednesday:

Thursday: more urgent care

Friday through Monday: recovery.

Tuesday: I was able to shower and dress and make myself breakfast without trek poles for balance. It wiped me out, so I took a nap. I awaken very much Not. Right. from that nap. I called Super-Amazing-Hub-Man and said, “I either need to call 9-1-1 or you need to take me to the ER.”

“I’m on my way.”

By the time he got home, I’d convinced myself that I didn’t need to go. I felt better. He made me go anyway.

(To be fair, I don’t think I’d don’t a great self-convincing job because I had my purse, glasses, and a half-gallon bag with clean undies and deodorant tossed in.)

Admission. Blood work. IV. CT. MRI.

Stroke.

“Excuse me, what?”

“The results show that you experienced a mild stroke. We are going to transport you to a hospital as soon as we identify a bed.”

And that, my friends, is how you have a stroke and unintentionally recover on your own for a week.

Let me say that differently:

My God is real and shields and provides and answers prayers. Jesus is my Savior and Healer and friend and is on the throne! And I’m going to live!!!!

My child, pay attention to what I say.

Listen carefully to my words.

Don’t lose sight of them.

Let them penetrate deep into your heart,

for they bring life to those who find them,

and healing to their whole body.

-Proverbs 4:20-22
