Brain Bake (July 13, 2011)

Tennis camp. No shade. Lots of water. Doesn’t seem like enough. Kids loving the sport. Baby chases the balls around. This is quite nice.

Till we get home.

Despite the water, the baseball hats, the visors, the apples, the pluots, and the regular breaks, the sun is melting my children’s brains. It takes so much out of them that on the 5-minute drive home, they all melt down and start the he’s looking at me and he’s touching me nonsense. The older kids don’t get into that so much as just having the inability to have a coherent thought. “Put this is the garbage,” is met with dumbfounded stares and, “Huh?”

As I type this they are filling up on egg salad sandwiches. There is a mandated naptime following lunch. Dear Lord, please let them wake up nice. And help me to wake up nicer. Jesus, I invite you into this afternoon that we can live it for you. Help me be patient and kind regardless of the moods of these blessings.

What sport/activity creates Brain Bake in your household? And more importantly, do you like pluots?
