Please understand that I realize that we all develop a familiarity about our work. I get slack even as an at-home mom. So I expect ER physicians to be comfortable in their environs. But not so casual that you appear apathetic about the patient’s situation.
We’ve made our share of ER visits lately, and I must say how disappointed I was with the ER doc who saw T. He just seemed to not care. My son was ill. I know my son. Does this doc not realize that I have about 2,398,462 tasks that I would rather be attending to instead of sitting in the ER? That said, give me the credit that I know when my son is sick. And this is NOT a general headache. And will you PUH-LEEZ just pretend that you care about us?
I had to get a little assertive when it seemed he was going to usher us out without much by way of an exam. We spent more time with the nurse who walked us to the room than with the doc!
Well, he finally listened (after I complained to the nurse, who pushed the doc) and gave the man-cub a CT scan. Lo and behold, the boy had a sinus infection. Told ya so, Dr. Apathy!
We don’t have to get ugly with folks, but sometimes you just have to step on the gas.
G was with us for part of the visit, until Henry retrieved him. I rummaged through my purse to find a way to entertain him and found the camera. So here is our ER visit in slideshow:
