Ethnic Man hurt his back playing ball. Sadly, it was hurt more than he realized. Two visits to the chiropractor and today we got an MRI. Results in the morning. Please keep him in your prayers.
[Please don’t see this as selfish…me talking all about ME and MY stuff when my hubby is hurting. But if ME is going to keep helping him, ME needs to have some down time. And this is it.]
Okay, so if you had 5 kids and homeschooled and suddenly the other adult in the group was out for the count, what would you do?
Eat.
But that is NOT what I did. I had my meals. I didn’t think through all the caloric choices. I just made sure that I ate at the proper times to ensure I had energy. At the clinic shop, I chose a snack size Hershey bar instead of a full size. I chose to enjoy the sodium-free seltzer water that I brought along instead of buying the Dr. Pepper that waved at me from behind the glass. (Seriously, it waved at me…and winked!)
And when Ethnic Man had me stop for gyros on the way home, I did NOT choose the gyro plate. I ordered and enjoyed every morsel of that pita encased happiness!
I just put all of my day’s information in My Fitness Pal. I didn’t lie. I slapped it all on in there (how many prepositions can I string together?). All 700+ calories of the pita joy meal. And when I clicked “complete this entry” even when it was over 500 calories over, I didn’t care.
Let’s back up to this morning. I weighed in. No change. UGH. BOO. I’ve been sweating to Core Rhythms Latin Dance. BIG FUN! But no change? I was in Bloat Week, so that’s okay, but really…NOTHING?!
Fast forward to my caloric data entry. It gave me my daily assessment. If you’ve never used MFP, you should know that after you enter your info, it calculates it and says, “If every day were like today, in 5 weeks, you would weigh ### lbs.” That number is usually enough to keep you encouraged. And today was no exception, because while I ate without extreme restraint, but with conscious thought, I was still 500 calories beyond reason. But here’s what it said:
If ever day were like today, in 5 weeks you would weigh 5 lbs less than you did this morning.
Really?! Well, I know that I won’t eat like this every day. I didn’t even exercise today. I didn’t try. So it’s saying that my habit has changed enough that on a bad day, I’m still on track for continued loss. YIPPEEEEEE!!!!!
So even a bad weigh-in day…even a bad day for my hubby (it has grieved my heart to see the pain he’s in)…can be a good day. I saw growth in myself. I was able to be there for my man in sickness…after all my challenging pregnancies, I feel like I was Sickness and he was Health. I’d really like it now if we could both be health. Couldn’t we just divorce sickness?
Before my fatigue takes me to extreme ramble, let me close. If what you are doing today is a better mental, emotional, or physical habit than where you were 5 weeks ago, then–regardless of how today might not have panned out–in 5 weeks you’ll be in a much better place.
Believe it!
