I’m still here! Alive and kicking!
Things have been crazy, nutty, busy with snowstorms, thaws, more snowstorms, ice, and a few snowstorms along the way. There was the trip to Moorhead for the Concordia College Day of Percussion (fabulous experience!) and there was the God showing up in full force at a MOPS meeting (supercalifragilistricexpedalidocious experience). I’ve learned that when I’m not blogging, I’m just gathering life experiences about which to blog.
Anyone who knows me knows that is the most ridiculous statement ever! I could blog for a year about a paper clip and not run out of things to say. I’ll spare you the proof, okay?
While I’d like today’s title to be “Milestone Monday,” it just so happens that I do my weigh-ins on Tuesday. Despite being devoid of alliterative flair, this morning’s weigh-in created a milestone: 20 lbs are no longer on my body! Aren’t you proud, Mrs. Allison!!
Mrs. Allison was the owner/manager of the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream parlor where I worked at a teen. One day she went to the back room to get some icing to decorate an ice cream cake. She came back lugging two tubs, one blue icing and one white icing. She just stared at me. She had an odd, piercing stare. I stared back at her wondering what I was supposed to do. She said, “I’m fat.”
Really? What is a 16-year-old girl at 110 lbs supposed to say to her BOSS declaring her obesity?!
Thankfully, she continued, ” These tubs are twenty pounds each. When a person is twenty pounds overweight, this is what they have. This is lard. Fat. I am way more than twenty pounds overweight. I’m depressed.” And she shook her head and lugged her 40 pounds of lard around the corner and decorated her cake. I just stood there.
Now–5 kids and a few decorated cakes later–I understand Mrs. Allison more than I ever thought I could. Today, I am free of one tub of lard. I’m not going to think about how many tubs I still need to shed. I’m just going to enjoy my one-tub-down status!!
