The title of this post is the first line of verse 8 in the fourth Psalm. And today I will lie down and sleep in peace because…MY BEDROOM IS CLEAN!!
Yup! My dear sweet, amazing husband kept the toddling wonder-girl engaged for most of the day. That allowed me to make serious headway in the bedroom. I cleaned under the bed, on the carpet, purged the clothes in the closet, and cleaned the armoire shelves. I had the privilege of listening to Mark Hamby tapes (thanks Brenda) and was encouraged in my parenting. Of the items that left that room, 50% went to the laundry room, 40% went to the thrift store, and 10% went in the trash.
This week is the hard part. Last week I had a mini-revelation. It’s pretty simple, but in a busy household like ours, quite a challenge: God wants me to have a day of rest, as well. Many of us see Sundays as our “catch-up” day, when everyone else is resting so we can finish things and prepare for the upcoming week. Last week I told Henry that I want to stop working at 5 pm on Saturday. No housework, especially laundry. I want time to do my nails before church, just chill out.
To find my bed under all the stuff, I had to keep pushing til about 6 pm, but then he took us out for a relaxing dinner at a Chinese restaurant. I had a few of the boys’ clothes to iron for church tomorrow. Between ironing items, I painted my toenails a bright pink and watched the movie “Higher Ground” on Netflix. It’s about the evolution of gospel music. Pretty good (except the reverse camera angles that were just bad cinematography). But I digress…
A few weeks ago, I’d put written each task I wanted to accomplish in my bedroom on post-its and put them on the wall. There were about 9 post-its. Tonight there are only 2. One requires Henry’s assistance and a toolbox. The other is actually a job for the bathroom. I cleared through it all. YIPPEEEEE!!! Thank you, Lord!
We sleep better when there’s less clutter. And so tonight, I will lie down and sleep in peace (and not trip and break my toe on the way to the bathroom).
