Fatigue, Planning, Blogging (July 1, 2011)

I’m exhausted. My husband told me so a few months ago. He told me I was experiencing fatigue and that recovery takes time. He’s right. But it took me these few months to articulate it myself. We homeschool moms don’t like to admit defeat. And admitting, “I’m tired,” felt like I was surrendering. And in a way, it is.

Surrendering to a healthier way of living life, refreshing, and finding balance is a good. Doing so with a now-walking 11-month-old, a bouncing and brilliant 4-year-old, an compassionate teddy bear at age 7, a kinesthetic 9-year-old, and a overachieving 11-year-old, well, shoot: it’s exhausting just reading that sentence, let alone living it!

But alas, surrender I have. So I’m inviting God to help me restore the balance, the passion, and the coherence (sanity) for this upcoming school year. In my devotion time, I’m learning that the key is planning. Not typical planning. Not your fly-lady level planning; too much condemnation in that for a homeschooling mom of five. Not Franklin-Covey planning; too many interruptions in my day to ever check things off.

Instead, it’s the God-guided planning. He knows me, my husband, these kids, our marriage and family vision. So He’s going to have to give me a course in planning for this season of my life.

And because I learn my lessons better when I journal through the process, I figured it’d be a good time to re-up for the Ultimate Blog Challenge (31 blogs in 31 days). So welcome to my Fatigue-Fighting Fest! Of course, it’s also time to plan my school year, so you’re coming along for that ride, too. Please invite your friends to subscribe…we’re going to cover a lot of ground, laugh a lot, cry less and hopefully learn and grow along the way.
