Yesterday I was invited to see regifting from an entirely new vantagepoint.
Jesus is the gift that can be regifted.
The pastor said it in the message on Sunday. What an interesting concept, I thought. Regifting Jesus.
He’s right! Jesus was a gift – from God! It says so in John 3:16: he GAVE his only begotten son.
And you can open that gift by opening your heart to his love and forgiveness and grace for an amazing life! And then Jesus told us to go and share the good news to all the ends of the earth. Which means what?
It means to regift Jesus!
So Merry Christmas! God so loved you that he gave you – yes, you – his son to believe in so that you can have eternal life instead of perishing. Perishing stinks. Perishing isn’t just “goin’ to hell.” Perishing is being grumpy and having no reason to not be grumpy. Perishing is beating yourself up about how you can’t seem to get things right. Perishing is believing that your dreams will never come true. Perishing is giving up on yourself. Perishing is being lonely. Perishing is not okay.
There are so many people who are perishing every day. You’ve seen them. They stand in the line in the coffee shop, at grocery checkout, the concert. They look out with a near-hidden hope that no one notices how horrible they feel; they look out wondering if they look cute enough to cover the fact that they think they’re ugly and unworthy. People are perishing in the cube next to you at work.
Or is it you perishing in your cube?
If you are…here, I’m giving you a gift. John 10:10 is my gift to you. I want you to have an abundant life. Aren’t you tired of having your dreams stolen, your hopes killed, and your relationships destroyed?
This gift that has been re-gifted for thousands of years has been changing lives. It’s through his love. His patient, enduring, kind, compassionate, and understanding love.
