We had a fairly relaxed morning on Saturday. So much so that we had to rush our packing and departure to keep from getting charged an extra night.
The capital of South Carolina, Columbia, is also home to Henry’s collegiate alma mater. Were it not for one of his mentors, Stanley McGraw, my husband says he’s not sure the turns his life would take. When they met, Sergeant McGraw was that rank, and so earned the name, “Sarge.” And it stuck, even after his promotion. If you were at our wedding, you’ll recall that Sarge was Henry’s best man.
Sarge and his wife, Tee, live just outside of Columbia, which is en route from Charlotte to Augusta. How could we not stop by? The boys had a blast! Tee and I has a pleasant chat about nursing, potty training, homeschooling, and the catering business in this economy. Her catering engagements have decreased recently because people don’t want to pay, but despite the rising cost of food, there is labor cost. Ho hum…the beat goes on.
Henry and Sarge covered the gamut of topics as they always do. We were blessed with okra, tomatoes, and cucumbers from Sarge’s garden. And oh, the tomatoes! Yummy scrummy to my tummy!
While in Columbia, we also made a quick stop to give a shout out to Willie Green, a former classmate of Henry and barber extraordinaire. As we drove away I realized that I forgot to snap a picture. Shucky ducky!
That reminds me….we haven’t been lucky, but TRULY blessed with great weather along this path. Praise God for traveling mercies!!
