We had to leave our picnic time with our friends when The Call came in. Sis Annette informed us that they had arrived at Carowinds and it was time to join them at the amusement park. We strolled into the Charlotte attraction early afternoon, and joined our relatives back in the water park.
Seeing his family is the part of the trip that does Henry’s heart the most good. Have you ever stopped to consider what it means to see family? If you live near your relatives, it may not be a thought. But we are both at least one state removed from our families. And while we know who we are in Christ, there’s a groundedness that returns to our souls when we see and spend time with our parents and siblings. It’s as if we can look back to where we came from to confirm the choices of where we are going and what we are imparting to our kids. Truly, I didn’t appreciate face-to-face airtime with my family as much until we had children. Perhaps this is why God wants us to fellowship with each other. There’s something about time fellowshipping with believers that reminds us whose we are and of our great commission.
After greeting nieces and nephews, I was given my mission: hang out with S and G. Cool! In the end, it meant sacrificing my desire to get on a roller coaster, but it’s a priceless value considering I was able to hang out with my Super-S. We saw the Dora show and G learned how to do the chicken dance (straight up comedy on that one!). After a yummy lunch of chicken and fries we had a blast seeing Scooby Doo in the ice skating show. Ironically, the show was about the fun of summer. We enjoyed that, and followed it up with a ride to the top of the flag to see a bird’s-eye view of the park. G thought it was pretty slick, but not as fun as riding the rides in NickToons fun park for the younger crowd.
AuntieNette (you try to say Aunt Annette, and you’ll condense it, too) brought T to me and we all shared a funnel cake. Then we all enjoyed more than a few rides. We finally found the entrance to the helicopter ride just as the overcast clouds bore too much of a safety hazard to the to our enjoyment. The park opted to close a considerable number of the rides. The water park was set to close a half hour from then, so the family decided to call it a night. Fireworks in the rain are just, well…wet firecrackers.
You’ll see a sad face on S in the slideshow; that’s his expression as he listed all the rides he didn’t get on. He looked so cute and cuddly, I was about to cry with him. But then G started throwing fries on the ground and picking them up to eat them. GROSS!
I’m so glad we left early. We needed some down time. Back at the hotel, we ordered pizza and wings. The boys watched a movie with Henry, saw a few fireworks from the window, and enjoyed their meal. I lay down to get G to sleep and awakened the next morning wondering what ever happened to my dinner. Obviously, I needed the sleep.
